Exciting News for Florida Veterans: A New Clinic in South Tampa

At Campaign Veterans, we are committed to supporting veterans in every facet of their lives, especially their health and well-being. We are thrilled to bring you some important updates from the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) that will significantly impact veterans in Florida.
Today, the VA unveiled the Sabal Park Clinic, a cutting-edge facility in South Tampa, Florida. This new clinic is set to revolutionize healthcare for veterans in the Tampa Bay area and Hillsborough County. With its advanced primary care, mental health, social work, and dietetics services, the Sabal Park Clinic is more than just a medical facility; it’s a beacon of hope for the veteran community Designed for easy accessibility, the clinic ensures veterans receive top-notch care close to home. Initially offering essential services, the clinic has ambitious plans to expand its offerings to include laboratory services, pharmacy consultations, nutritional support, and social work assistance. This comprehensive approach aims to address the diverse health needs of veterans, ensuring they receive tailored, high-quality care.

The opening of the Sabal Park Clinic is timely, given the significant increase in veteran enrollment in VA care. Over the past year, more than 32,000 veterans in Florida have enrolled, contributing to a nationwide surge of 400,000 new enrollees—an impressive 30% increase year over year. This rise reflects growing trust and satisfaction in VA services, with over 91% of veterans expressing contentment with their care. Recent studies have shown that VA healthcare consistently outperforms non-VA care regarding quality and patient satisfaction. These positive trends are a testament to the dedication and hard work of our healthcare professionals and stakeholders.

Dr. Shereef Elnahal, VA Under Secretary for Health, emphasized the importance of this expansion, stating, “As the veteran population continues to grow in the Tampa Bay area, we must continue to connect veterans to the best health care—as close to home as possible. This expansion means access to world-class care for veterans, and there’s nothing more important than that.” David Dunning, Executive Director of VA Tampa Health Care and Medical Center Director of the James A. Haley Veterans’ Hospital and Clinics, echoed this sentiment, adding, “More veterans are turning to us for their care, and that’s a testament to the quality of care we provide. This new clinic expands health care options for Tampa veterans, and we are eager to provide them with the care they deserve.”

The Sabal Park Clinic began serving veterans in February and is part of the more extensive VA Tampa Veterans Health Care System. This system serves over 120,000 veterans in Tampa across five central counties. With a dedicated staff of approximately 6,200 employees—25% of whom are veterans—and 350 volunteers, the healthcare system offers a wide range of services. In 2023 alone, the system handled 10,203 admissions and 1.7 million outpatient visits.

The opening of the Sabal Park Clinic marks a significant step forward in ensuring that veterans receive the care they deserve. We are proud to support VA initiatives like this and remain steadfast in our commitment to helping veterans navigate their benefits and achieve the best possible outcomes. We are here for you every step of the way to ensure that you receive the care and support you need.
